Wail Alselwi

Wail Alselwi, affectionately known as “Island Ock” to his Staten Island community, is doing extraordinary work that reflects hope, kindness, and motivation. At his deli, Zack’s Finest, Wail has created a report card incentive program where local kids are rewarded for their academic achievements. Students who earn high grades or demonstrate progress are treated to small prizes like snacks, while exceptional performers with averages above 90% get not only their choice of goodies but also $100 and a T-shirt.

Inspired by a 12-year-old named Zamier Davies, Wail launched this initiative in 2023 to encourage better grades and celebrate hard work. What began as a promise to help one child improve his academic standing has grown into a cherished community tradition, with kids traveling from as far away as Pennsylvania to share their successes with him. His approach mixes humor, warmth, and genuine care, proving that a small gesture of recognition can leave a lasting impact.

Wail has also gained widespread support through TikTok, where he shares these joyful moments with his followers. His kindness has inspired many people to contribute, leading to a GoFundMe campaign that has raised nearly $50,000 to support his efforts. For Wail, though, the most important thing is showing children that their achievements matter and their hard work is seen and valued. As he says, “I like seeing the smile on their faces. Man, it makes me happy.”

When Jenny Ahlstrom, a wife and mother of six from Sandy, Utah, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a rare form of blood cancer, in 2010, she faced an overwhelming road ahead. Imagine hearing the word "incurable" and being handed a sea of treatment options, unsure of which to choose. But Jenny, fueled by determination and hope, persevered.

Her turning point came through a remarkable clinical trial for CAR-T immunotherapy, a treatment that revolutionizes a patient’s own blood cells to fight cancer. By God's grace and medical innovation, this therapy worked. Three years later, Jenny is cancer-free. Yes, you read that right––completely disease-free!

But Jenny’s story didn’t stop there. Instead of walking away after her hard-fought battle, she stepped into the calling to help others. She founded the Healthtree Foundation, a nonprofit devoted to empowering cancer patients with education and providing researchers with the tools they need to innovate care. Her work has brought hope and clarity to thousands of families facing the same uncertainty she once endured.

Jenny proves that even in our darkest valleys, God can use our struggles to bless others. Her story is a beautiful reminder that perseverance, faith, and community can create ripples far beyond ourselves.
